Mutya ng Pilipinas 2007 will be held here in May.

This was announced Thursday by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administrator Armand C.Arreza shortly after the signing of an agreement with Mutya ng Pilipinas Incorporated president Roberto De Venecia.

"I'm very excited about having big events now coming to the Subic Bay Freeport. The said pageant will give us a very, very good exposure especially with the focus of Mutya on the environment, and on the attractions in Subic Bay. So I think it's a very good partnership. We can help promote the values that Mutya promotes and at the same time, showcase the attractions here," Arreza said.He said it has always been the natural attractions here that make it a unique destination -- the natural environment, the amenities as well as upcoming attractions like the amusement park, and new hotels and resorts.

The Subic-Clark Expressway, which is very expected to improve proximity, also makes the Subic Freeport a very good tourist destination.

According to the memorandum of agreement, SBMA will host the 2007 Mutya ng Pilipinas. Tourist destinations within Subic Bay as well as in Zambales and Olongapo City will also be featured during the three-week competition. The Grand Coronation Night will also be in the Subic Bay Freeport.

Meanwhile, De Venecia disclosed that around 30 candidates, including those from Filipino communities in the USA, Canada, Norway, Germany and the UK, will compete in main events, namely Tourism, Fashion, Social Responsibility, Pre-Pageant, Swimsuit, Talent, Long Gown Competition, Philippine Terno, and the Coronation Night.

"Contingents from Filipino communities abroad are also joining the pageant so that we can entice the Filipino abroad to come to Subic Bay and experience a complete community that is Subic," he said.

"For me, I think Subic Bay is one of those destinations which boast of the most complete facilities in the entire country. Where else in the Philippines could you find an airport, a seaport, mountains and beaches in one place?" he said when asked why they chose the Subic Bay Freeport as the venue of the next pageant.

Also present during the signing ceremony were SBMA Director Ricardo Coscolluela, world-renowned fashion designer Renee Salud, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International 2006 Vera Eumee Reiter and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International 2004 Jedah Hernandez. (PNA)
