SUBIC, Philippines -- South Korea's Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Corp. officially opened part of a $1.6-billion shipyard in the northern Philippine port of Subic Bay, officials said Thursday.
With the completion of the shipyard's initial phase, Hanjin said it will now be able to operate out of Subic.
The newly opened facility includes a dry-dock, hull making facilities, a four-story administration building, a three-story production and design building, field offices, catering center and a guest house.
Hanjin aims to build some of the world's largest sea vessels, including supertankers, crude carriers and container ships, in the shipyard.
The company has pending orders for 40 cargo vessels. Its first two orders are tankers worth some $65.6 million each, Hanjin chairman Nam Ho Cho said. www.inquirer.net |
