Construction underway on monument honoring Fil-Am Sailors at Subic Bay Freeport

The United States Sailors Alliance of the Philippines (USSAP), led by Chairman Doce Salazar and in cooperation with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) officials, spearheaded the project which will unveil the “Filipino Shipmate Monument.” The monument is a tribute to the legacy of thousands of Filipino-American sailors recruited out of Sangley Point, Cavite, former Subic Bay Naval Base and mainland USA from 1901 to present.
The Filipino Shipmate Monument is conveniently located along Waterfront Road next to the Inang Laya Statue and across the SBMA Administration Bldg. 229. It is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of Subic Bay Freeport visitors every year once completed by January 2026. (NJ Vizcocho)
