ADRIATIC SEA. The Italian training ship ITS Amerigo Vespucci sails alongside the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Sep. 1, 2022. The ships operated together to commemorate the 60th anniversary of a 1962 meeting between USS Independence (CVA 62) and Italy’s senior national vessel Amerigo Vespucci. The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S., allied and partner interests. The George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) during a change of command ceremony, Sep. 1, 2022. Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7 is the offensive air and strike component of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 10 and the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group. The squadrons of CVW-7 are Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 143, VFA-103, VFA-86, VFA-136, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 140, Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 121, HSC-5, and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 46. BALTIC SEA. The U.S. Navy Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), the Swedish navy Visby-class corvettes HSwMS HŠrnšsand (K33) and HSwMS Nykšping (K34), the Carlskrona-class auxiliary support ship HSwMS Carlskrona (P04), the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44), the Stockholm-class corvette HSwMS Malmš (P 12), the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD 24), the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117) and the Visby-class corvettes HSwMS Karlstad (K35) and HSwMS Helsingborg (K32) break away from formation after a maneuvering exercise in the Baltic Sea, Aug. 30, 2022.
