500 Mangrove propagules planted for Earth Day 2013

OLONGAPO CITY — Officials and employees of SM City Olongapo along with other stakeholders planted 500 Mangrove propagules and holding a clean-up along Calapandayan River in Subic town, Zambales in observation of the 2013 Earth Day.

Assistant Mall Manager Junias Eusebio said “the activity is among our modest contributions in helping ease the ill-effects of global warming.”

On the same day, SM Olongapo launched a fair which showcased eco-friendly products and innovations by local investors such as Global Water Bonsai, Human Nature products and Fashionable clothes made of recycled materials designed by local talent James O’ Briant.

“Apart from our annual Earth Day celebration, our other environment-related projects include Trash to Cash/Recycling Market every first Friday and Saturday of the month where members of the community can visit the closest SM Supermall and exchange recyclables and discarded items for cash; SM Green Bag Campaign related to different cities and municipalities in support of Plastic ordinances ; Green Film Festival that showcase selected award winning documentaries about climate change and the Green Retail Agenda which aims to help tenants and business partners to foster sustainable methods, be updated on latest trends and innovations and best practices relating to sound ecological strategies that are advantageous to commerce” Eusebio added.

For years, SM Supermalls have been an advocate of environmental conservation, active in comprehensive approach to fostering not only operational sustainability but also in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles of the general public.

To date, the SM Group of Companies and Affiliates have already planted almost 300,000 trees while targeting one million trees in the future.
