Alternate routes for repair of major bridge
CABANATUAN CITY — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Friday the alternate routes in light with the ongoing repair and retrofitting of the General Luna bridge, otherwise know as Valdefuente bridge, which has caused heavy traffic along the Valdefuente-Mayapyap-Caalibangbangan section of Maharlika highway.
“We advise heavy vehicles to avoid the area and instead take the Sta. Rosa – Tarlac Road towards Aliaga then exit at Carmen – Cabanatuan Road in Barangay Caalibangbangan, Cabanatuan City for Northbound vehicles or enter the Carmen – Cabanatuan Road, passing through Zaragoza via Sta. Rosa – Tarlac Road for Southbound motorists,” Nueva Ecija 2nd Assistant District Engineer Ricardo Puno said.
Meanwhile, one lane remains open at the bridge and flagmen had been posted to supervise the traffic flow by having a ten-minute interval for north and southbound vehicles.
“We would like to assure the motorists that we are closely coordinating with the contractor of the P45 million project to strictly implement the traffic management plan we have laid out in order to minimize congestion at both ends of the bridge,” Puno said.
He likewise appealed to travelers to bear with the temporary traffic bottleneck, stressing that the work being done by DPWH is for the best interest of the motoring public. (PIA 3)
