Reviving the Art of Letter Writing

The Philippine Postal (PhilPost) Corporation, together with the Department of Education (DepEd), Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) and SM Supermalls held the 2nd National Letter Writing Day on Thursday, October 9 at SM City Olongapo to mark the celebration of World Post Day in the country.
The ever-expanding world of new technology brings change the way our brains work, emails and texts influence much of our letter writing skills, while the classic letter writing has died out.
With this year’s theme “Pinasaya”, participating students wrote happy thoughts to delight a family member, friend, teacher, or anyone special.
According to Olongapo Postmaster Julieta Dagdag, the National Letter Writing Day is part of “PhlPost’s Sulat-Mulat Postal Awareness Campaign” with the aim to re-introduce and promote the art of letter writing as a means of communication among students in today’s modern age.
“The activity aims to sharpen the composition skills of the students and cherish the enjoyment of sending and receiving letters through the postal office,” she added.
Some 150 students of Olongapo City National High School engaged in the letter writing using a post card , the classic mail box was one of the highlights where each student drop their letter to be transmitted to the recipients.
Around 100,000 students nationwide participated in the 2nd National Letter Writing Day. (PR-SMOL)
