EARTH DAY 2015

TRASH to CASH. Old books and plastic bottles were among the recyclable materials that were sold during the Earth Day celebration at SM City Olongapo. The “Trash to Cash” recycling market is one of SM’s institutional environmental program that aims to engage the community in recycling efforts and hopes that environmental awareness will continue to spread throughout the country.(PR-SMOL)

SM Olongapo and other SM malls, in partnership with Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNP) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, will take part in the annual, global celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2015 through a simultaneous and highlighted Trash to Cash activity. This activity aims to encourage people to protect and respect Mother Earth though recycling and proper waste disposal.

The main objective of celebrating “The Earth Day” is to innovate new ideas and solutions to protect our planet and inculcate all the methods for the protection of Mother Earth. In support to the objective of Earth Day Network, all SM Supermalls on April 22 will have a relevant and impactful mall wide celebration of Earth Day.

During this day, SM invites and encourages local government and the community,haulers, recycling groups, social/environmental recycling project groups and private companies to participate in the Trash to Cash activity.

 

Customers can simply bring their recyclables, drop it in the designated activity area of the mall for a corresponding amount of cash.

In addition to the cash, free sando bags will be given to the first 300 customers. The event is open to public from 10AM to 4PM.

For years, SM Supermalls has been an advocate of environmental conservation, extremely active in comprehensive approach to promoting not only operational sustainability but also in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles of the general public.

To date, the SM Group of Companies and Affiliates have already planted an estimated of 300,000 trees while targeting one million trees in the future.(PR-SMOL)
