The recent celebration of Senior’s Day at SM City Olongapo gave emphasis to keeping them engaged, connected and mentally active in technology.
According to a 2012 survey by Pew Research, the number of older adults using the internet and related tech devices is increasing, with over half of seniors using the internet and owning cellphones.
So what devices should seniors have? Cell phones are becoming more senior-friendly and it helps seniors stay connected with friends and family.
Through the Elderly Care Program of SM Cares, SM proves that there is life after retirement, by hosting activities that promote healthy lifestyle and provide trainings for the elderly, from information technology to livelihood and works on ensuring that senior citizens are well-integrated in the community.
The Senior’s Day event was made possible through the Office of Senior Citizens Affair and mall tenants such as Oppo, Lenovo and Star Mobile who spared time to update the Seniors in handling phone Apps.
Study says that Cellphones, Tablets, IPads are just some of the must have gadgets for seniors because it promotes brain fitness to apps, can track health information and have a variety of positive impacts on the seniors’ lives. Seniors can view photos, listen to music, read, learn languages. The devices are lightweight, their touch screens easy to use, and font sizes can be adjusted for easier reading.(PR-SMOL)
