Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman & Administrator Roberto V. Garcia (middle) has bared plans of a major expansion of Subic Port’s facilities in anticipation of the projected increase in cargo volume in two (2) to three (3) year’s time. Garcia made the revelation in the 1st Anniversary episode of the Freeport Media Forum, a project of the Samahang Media ng Subic Freeport (formerly SMSBF), that is taped-as-live at MMK (My Mommy’s House of Kare-Kare) beside Remy field and the Subic Gym.

Aired over 89.5 Bay fm radio at 9 to 10 AM every Sunday, forum head panelists are SMSF president and Subic Bay News publisher Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr. (L) and Manila Stantard’s Willy Capulong (right), SMSF’s vp.

Garcia said “the expansion is necessary and should be done while the volume isn’t there yet. When the cargo volume is already there, then it would be too late to do the expansion.”

SBMA plans to double its 600k TEUs capacity to 1.2 M as Manila’s current three (3) million TEUs capacity will grow to six (6) million, also, in two (2) to three (3) years.

In recent months, Garcia said, more and more shipping lines have been using Subic that is why cargo volume will definitely grow as it has been doing so continuously since January of this year. SBNphoto by Alex Galang
