It’s official: Martin B. Diño is SBMA Chairman.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte has appointed Martin B. Diño as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
SBMA runs the Subic Bay Freeport, former base of the US Navy, now a bustling international business hub, south of Zambales province.
Duterte issued Diño’s appointment on Friday, 23 September 2016 but was received only yesterday by the office of outgoing SBMA chairman & administrator Roberto V. Garcia.
“By virtue hereof, you may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office…,” Duterte said in Diño’s appointment.
It can be recalled that Diño filed his certificate of candidacy for president but withrew in favor of Duterte who eventually won by an overwhelming majority in the May 2016 elections.

A former bgy. chairman in Quezon City, Diño rose to national prominence in the fight against crime and corruption, being a long-term head of the Volunteers Against Crime & Corruption (VACC).
Locators and investors are now eagerly awaiting who would be appointed administrator, who would partner with Diño in running the multi-billion dollar business agency of the government.
Diño is expected to assume office on Monday, October 3, 2016, and serve until the expiration of his appointment on June 30, 2022.
