New Sanitary Inspectors

The health department, through its Environmental and Occupational Health Program, has trained and oriented new rural Sanitary Inspectors (SIs) deployed on different municipalities in the region.

This recognizes the vital role of SIs in the prevention and control of diseases from spreading in the community.

“Through this orientation-training, we believe that the participants have acquired better understanding of their work applicable to the present situations and challenges,” Regional Sanitation Coordinator Manuel Castro said.

The SIs were oriented on their roles and functions, the principles of environmental sanitation, sanitation programs and components under the Code on Sanitation of the Philippines, environmental sanitation in their locality, effects of climate change and chemical effect of toxic and hazardous waste.  Participants also did an actual sampling of swimming pool water to determine the chlorine residual and PH on the water with the use of comparator kit.

“Prior to the issuance of sanitary permits, part of the sanitary inspectors’ responsibilities are to ensure safe drinking water, food sanitation, promote hygiene, industrial sanitation, inspect sanitary landfills, health care and solid waste management, sewage collection and septic management and ensure sanitation on schools, markets and slaughter houses,” Castro added.
