CL Residents Urged To Take PMMA Entrance Exams

SAN NARCISO, Zambales— Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) continues to invite residents of Central Luzon to grab the opportunity to have a promising career as an officer of the Navy, Coast Guard, or any private shipping line by taking its entrance exam on September 28.

PMMA President Commo. Richard Ritual said “the exam is open to all Filipino citizens aged 16 to 22 years old by June, 2014 who are single (never been married); at least 160 centimeters (5 ft. and 3 inches) tall for males and 155 centimeters (5 ft. and 1 inch) for females; at least a high school graduate or graduating from high school by April next year with at least an average academic performance and background in Trigonometry; of good moral character; and physically and mentally fit for active merchant marine or naval service,”

Those who are interested and qualified are advised to submit personally or by mail a fully accomplished application form along with a copy of an authenticated birth certificate; three copies of recent 2X2 colored pictures with name tag, front view and white background; two pieces self-addressed long white mailing envelopes with P30 worth of mailing stamps per envelope and examination fee of P350 to the Committee on Admissions of PMMA on or before August 31.

Ritual bared that “this year’s entrance exam consists of English, High school Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry), Science (General Science, Chemistry and Physics) and Abstract Reasoning,”

It will be held simultaneously in over 37 venues across the archipelago including PMMA Complex in San Narciso, Zambales; Aurora State College of Technology; Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School in Malolos City, Bulacan; Pampanga High School and Tarlac National High School-Main.

Aspirants who successfully hurdle the test shall undergo Neuro-Psychological Evaluation, Medical Exam, Physical Exam and one-month

orientation training to determine their medical conditions as well as their psychological and physical readiness to undergo a rigorous training.

Originally known as Escuela Nautica de Manila, PMMA was created by virtue of a Royal Decree issued on January 1, 1820 through the recommendation of the Spanish Consulate of Commerce.

In the 1987 Administrative Code, issued by then Pres. Corazon Aquino, the PMMA was made as an attached agency of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).

In 1997, the PMMA was also placed under the direct control and supervision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at the same time maintaining its attached status with the DOTC.

Today, the PMMA stands as a pillar among maritime institutions in the country.

It has developed the Quality Standard System in compliance with the requirements of the 1995 International Convention on Seafarer’s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping and the Policies, Standards and Guidelines for Maritime Education of CHED. (CLJD-PIA 3)
