APEC 2015 Update: 3,740 PNP for APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga–National Police (PNP) shall deploy around 3,740 personnel inside and within the perimeters of Clark Freeport to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the first Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit from January 26-February 7.
“We have organized a Regional Task Group to ensure effective and efficient delivery of security coverage during the SOM1. Series of coordinating conferences with other law enforcement agencies have also been conducted to guarantee the safety and security of a total of 1,700 delegates,” PNP OIC-Regional Director PCSupt. Ronald Santos said.
PNP Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) has been conducting since last year relative trainings that would beef up its preparations for SOM1.
This includes Close Protection Orientation, Hostage Negotiation Course, Proper Etiquette and Protocol, Radio Operation and Procedures Course, Pistol Proficiency Training, Civil Disturbance Management Training, and Explosives and Ordnance Refresher Course.
A simulation exercise was held Saturday to test these preparations while the actual accounting and deployment of personnel would begin on Tuesday, January 20.

APEC began as an informal dialogue group in 1989, but has since become the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Philippines, as its current chair, will be hosting throughout the year and in key economic and tourist sites including Metro Manila, Clark, Tagaytay, and Boracay a number of meetings of Senior Officials (Cabinet Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries) and Ministers (Cabinet Secretaries) prior to its conclusion in November with an Economic Leaders’ Meeting that shall be participated by Heads of State and Government.
Apart from the Philippines, other members of APEC include Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; People’s Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; The Russian Federation; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; United States of America; and Viet Nam.
