KEPPEL SUBIC HAS BIGGEST CRANE IN SOUTH EAST ASIA

THE biggest Gantry Crane in the Philippines and the whole of South-East Asia is now operational at KEPPEL Subic Shipyard, Inc. (KSSI) in Subic, Zambales.

In simple ceremonies, the 1,500-ton capacity crane was blessed by Rev. Pol Lizada with officers and employees of Keppel in attendance.

The crane has been constructed for use in Keppel’s contract to build for Shell a Depletion Compression Platform (DCP) for the latter’s Malampaya Project, but will thereafter also serve as a permanent structure for the requirements of the shipyard’s future clients.

Malampaya, which supplies 40-45% of Luzon’s electric power requirement, is a vital component of the country’s development projection, and the DCP that Keppel is building will ensure its continued and prolonged operations.

Keppel bagged the DCP contract from Shell based on its track record of efficiency and safety, Leong Kok Weng, KSSI president said, with the towering crane symbolizing the shipyard’s excellent capabilities. (Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr.)
