Chevron vessel rescues Fisherman in West Philippine Sea
ON September 6, 2014, fisherman Florey Ordaniel, 37, of Lawak, Iba, Zambales was rescued from drowning in the West Philippine Sea, 16 miles from Subic Bay.
The vessel, Iver Express, an accredited marine tanker of Chevron Philippines Inc. (Chevron), had just unloaded cargo at the Chevron Batangas Terminal and was returning to Korea when they spotted Ordaniel floating in the water, and immediately manuevered for the rescue.
After the rescue, the tanker returned to Korea to load cargo and proceeded to Batangas early this morning with a grateful and well-rested Ordaniel on board.
Ordaniel was turned over to the Philippine Coast Guard Batangas station where he recounted his ordeal and subsequent rescue.
According to Ordaniel, he was fishing by himself in the early morning of Sept. 6 when he fell off his boat after losing balance due to the inclement weather and turbulent tidal conditions in the waters off Barangay Lawak. He was rescued by Iver Express in the afternoon of the same day.
Following a report on the incident by marine tanker Iver Express, Chevron led by its Value Chain Optimization Manager Gary Castillo and the Batangas Terminal Manager Vic Calimag provided all necessary assistance for Ordaniel to return to his family in Iba, Zambales after almost two weeks away from home. His anxious family and members of his community await his return.
“I lost all strength after struggling at sea for 12 hours. I felt hopeless and was ready to drown any second until the crew from the ship found me. They gave me proper medication and treatment on board until my body recovered from fatigue. I will never forget the kind treatment I received from Chevron. I’m so relieved to be reunited with my family,”said Ordaniel.
