Independence Day Jobs Fair
Celebration of the 115th Philippine Independence Day became even more memorable in this province as the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) launched its 13th Sulong Zambales Jobs Fair on June 12 at Mangan-vaca Covered Court, Subic, Zambales.
Provincial PESO Manager/ Vice Gov. Ramon G. Lacbain II stresses that concurrence with the Independence Day they conducted the Jobs Fair to stir a contributing action to end poverty. “We wanted that this day will be our way to realize…. that through employment we can free ourselves from the woes of impoverishment.” said Vice Gov. Lacbain.
”Under the leadership of Governor Hermogenes E. Ebdane, Jr. our vision is to ensure that our province mates will either apply for a job or create jobs through business.” PESO Zambales recorded exactly 937 applicants (the biggest number so far compared to previous jobs fairs). There are 13 hired-on-the-spot applicants while others will still be screened by the companies.
There are 26 participating agencies for work abroad and 24 companies for local. Biggest and popular companies joined the affair including the Ayala Malls, SM, Light House Marina Resort, Hokei, Keppel Subic Shipyard, Puregold and SBMA Labor Department etc. Aside from the lined-up recruitment process, the activity also enlightens cultural and nationalistic presentations by selected performers from the province.
Meanwhile, DOLE for their part emulates this year’s carrying theme”Kalayaan: Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran”. DOLE Provincial Chief, Maria Rima Hernandez says that the Department through Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and under President Aquino’s administration will beef-up its mechanisms to ensure that applicants will get and be equip with necessary experiences and skills to be able to get the job they deserved.
Zambales and Bulacan were the only provinces in Central Luzon who participated in the conduct of Jobs Fair. Zambales PESO has committed to participate in DOLE’s nationwide-conduct of Jobs Fairs including those on March 8 in celebration of Women’s Day, Labor Day on May 1, Independence Day on June 12 and DOLE Anniversary on December 8.
However, because of a long time gap between June 12 and December 8, PESO Zambales decided to conduct another Jobs Fair on September 12 this year. In a desire to continuously help jobseekers, PESO Zambales encourages agencies and companies to coordinate with Municipal PESOs in conducting Special Recruitment Activities (SRA) for work abroad and Local Recruitment Activities (LRA) for work inside the country.
PESO also promotes the Special Registry System (SRS) and Philjob.net-a manpower registry system that kept records of jobseekers for online recruitment.
Applicants’ data were also input in the system during the conduct of jobs fair.
13 hired on the spot
Meanwhile, thirteen applicants were hired on the spot and dozens others qualified for final interview during the 13th Sulong Zambales Job Fair which coincided with the celebration of the 115th Philippine Independence Day. “We wanted that Independence Day will be our way to realize….that through employment we can free ourselves from the woes of impoverishment,” according to Ramon Lacbain II, vicegGovernor and provincial public employment service office (PESO) manager.
