MARITIME SECURITY SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM
This powerful camera (left), along with advanced radar monitoring, can identify and record any sea-going vessel as far out as 30 kilometers away from the shorelines of Subic Bay.
Aptly perched on the Lighthouse (lower photo) at Bgy. Kalaklan as authorized by Olongapo City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino, in cooperation with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman & Administrator Roberto V. Garcia, Canadian firm Xanatos, which specialises in maritime surveillance, installed the camera and monitoring system in the Freeport after having set up three (3) other cameras in various parts of Zambales by virtue of an agreement with Governor Hermogenes Ebdane.
The security surveillance system will not only generate revenue for Zambales and the Freeport but can also deter illegal activities like drugs and fuel smuggling, piracy, waste dumping and incursions of foreign ships, especially Chinese vessels, on Philippines waters or territories, in the face of China’s unabashed aggression in the West Philippines Sea.
