National Press Club President Inducts Subic Media Group

The new officers of Samahan ng Mamamahayag sa Subic Bay Freeport (Olongapo, Zambales, Bataan) or SMSBF was formally installed into office recently at Cork Room, Subic Bay Freeport.

National Press Cub President Benny Antiporda was the inducting officer as well as guest of honor & speaker.

Installed as president was Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr., publisher of Subic Bay News and columnist of Remate.

Other officers include Rey Dungog of Tiktik as vice president; Dante Salvaña of Daily Sun, secretary;

Cecille Garcia of Manila Standard, treasurer; Alex Galang of Pilipino Star Ngayon, Auditor; immediate past president Jeff Gallos Tombado of ABS-CBN DZMM, business manager; and advisers Rey Garcia of Headline/News Central/Business World and Willy Capulong of Manila Standeard and NOW.

Other members include Betty Bendicion of DZRH and broadcaster John Sayson.

Antiporda reiterated the importance of responsible reporting as well as the media’s duty to inform and protect the public’s right to know.

Vizcocho, in his acceptance message, said it is high time to revisit the perception of tabloid newspapers vis a vis broadsheets, as regards mass reach and readership.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Roberto V. Garcia received a plaque of recognition during the induction where he spoke of SBMA’s record-breaking P1.2 B net earnings for 2013, after some P846 M net in 2012.

SBMA has been losing billions of pesos prior to Garcia’s term.

Olongapo City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino, who delivered an inspirational address proudly annouced the improved process of issuing business permits that had been the headache of businessmen during the past administration. (Louella G. Vizcocho)
