Her Story, is a gathering of around 150 OB-GYNs in the Philippines together with key societies Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), Asia Oceania Research Organization on Genital Infections and Neoplasia (AOGIN), Philippine Society for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (PSCPC), Cervical Cancer Prevention (CECAP), Society of Adolescent Medicine of the Philippines (SAMPI), Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV), and Bravehearts Foundation.
Not many women today are aware that cervical cancer is preventable. In the Philippines, Cervical Cancer is the 2nd highest killer cancer among women. Incidence starts rising steeply at age 35, when women are at the prime of their lives. In its early stages, Cervical Cancer may not show signs or symptoms. Physicians are in a unique position to reach out to more patients and help increase patients’ education about Cervical Cancer and the options available to prevent it.
Every patient visit to an OB-GYN’s clinic is an opportunity to increase cervical cancer awareness and prevention. Physicians are in a unique position to influence the lives of women so that they can rethink their choices, re-write their stories, and make the right decisions to take care of their health more, free from the cervical cancer.
As patients, the time to be more in control of your health is now.
For physicians, the call to reach out to more patients begins at every patient visit.
The mission to create a dent in protecting more Filipino women from the perils of Cervical Cancer is not easy and cannot be done overnight. There is a need for patients and physicians to jointly take the more active fight against Cervical Cancer.
