Update: Central Luzon is red-tide free
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga April 10 (PIA) — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has declared Region 3 free from red tide. In an April 3 bulletin, the agency said the provinces of Bulacan, Bataan, and Zambales “continue to be free from toxic red tides.”
Coastal waters of Bulacan and Bataan with towns Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Orani, Abucay, Samal and City of Balanga, and Masinloc Bay in Zambales remain free from paralytic shellfish poison.
Meanwhile, shellfishes collected at Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, and Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte and Misamis Occident are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.
“All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the said areas are not safe for human consumption.
Fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs are safe for human consumption provided they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking,” BFAR added. (CLJD/JGB-PIA 3)
