World Tourism Day Rites at SM Olongapo

The City Tourism Office gathered students from the different private and public schools for a 2-day celebration of World Tourism Day.
Coherent to other parts of the world, SM Olongapo and the City Tourism Office joined hands to celebrate the event last September 26 and 27 at SM City Olongapo Carpark.
SM Supermalls strives to be a key player in educating the various sectors under one common goal, to recover our urban ecosystems and promote sensible lifestyle choices.
The 2-day event showcased students talents in poster making, giving interpretation to the theme, “Tourism & Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development”, they also demonstrated their dancing ability, as they moved their feet and body to the beat of Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas”, official theme song of Choose Pilipinas.
Meanwhile, huge crowd checked out the “Little Miss Olongapo” beauty pageant during the culmination activity, eleven adorable little girls ages 4-7 vied for the title.
According to World Tourism Organization, this year’s theme aims to highlight tourism’s role in a brighter energy future; a future in which the world’s entire population has access to modern, efficient and affordable energy services.
Its purpose is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event seeks to address global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make in reaching these goals.
World Tourism Day (WTD) is held annually on 27 September.(PR-SMOL)
