Storm Signal no. 2 in Olongapo Despite Early Evening Calm

A prevailing early evening calm here hides the fact that PAGASA has raised Typhoon Alert Signal no. 2 in Olongapo.

PAGASA reported that Typhoon Glenda has slowed down and that its landfall will be later than expected as earlier announced, but no less dangerous as it continues to gather strength.

Typhoon alert level 2 has also been raised in the rest of Central Luzon and Metro-Manila, where Glenda is expected to hit on Wednesday afternoon, and shortly thereafter Olongapo City and the Subic Bay Freeport, barring changes on the current speed it is travelling across Luzon towards the West Philippines Sea.

Signal no. 3 covers the Bicol region, most of Region 4 and Northern Samar.
Olongapo Mayor Rolen Paulino has announced the suspension of classes even as he convened the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to minimize, if not eliminate, the possible negative impact of the typhoon.

Experts warned that the early evening calm should not mislead the public into believing that the typhoon has weakened or is not coming after all, reminding the public of the saying “calm before the storm,” in a manner of speaking. (VVV)
