THE Philippines currently has a housing backlog of over four (4) million families, which means four (4) out of ten (10) Filipino Families do not own their house and do not have security of land tenure.
This was revealed by Gina Virtusio, communications director of Habit For Humanity (HFH) Philippines, the local affiliate of HFH International which was founded in 1976 in the United States “with the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”
Guesting recently in the “Freeport Media Forum” at My Mommy’s House of Kare-Kare (MMK), Virtusio said it is HFH Philippines’ plan to “support the national goal of reducing the total housing deficit in the country by 20% in the year 2020.
She told reporters present in the forum that to achieve this, HFH Philippines has launched a campaign to raise some P5 B, serve at least 800,000 Filipino families and mobilize some 1 million volunteers, among others.
Virtusio called on Subic Freeport locators and businessmen, as well as all good-hearted residents in the community, to take part in the HFH Philippines’ efforts “that everyone may have a decent, affordable and safe place to live.”
HFH is present in some 86 countries all over the world, 23 of which is in the Asia-Pacific region.
