Aurora and Bulacan communities receive relief goods from NGCP

While the rest of the country enjoyed the lights and sounds characteristic of the year-end holidays, Barangay Villa Aurora in Maria Aurora, Aurora and barangays Iba O’Este and Bulusan, both in Calumpit, Bulacan were still reeling from the effects of Typhoon Nona with roads blocked by landslides and farms submerged in floodwater.

As a way of giving back to communities that host transmission facilities, NGCP conducted a series of relief operations to over 300 families in Brgy. Villa Aurora, 600 families in Brgy. Iba O’Este, and 800 families in Brgy. Bulusan, last December 30 and January 5. Relief goods

include rice, canned goods, water, biscuits, noodles, and bathroom necessities.

“As partners in protecting power transmission lines, NGCP sees it as a responsibility to help our host communities affected by any form of calamity. In cooperation with the local government and community leaders, we are also looking at any and all opportunities to support in their post-calamity recovery and development,” stated NGCP.

Brgy. Villa Aurora hosts NGCP’s Cabanatuan-San Luis 69kV line while both Brgys. Iba O’Este and Bulusan host Hermosa-San Jose 230kV transmission line, a critical transmission facility that delivers the bulk power from the power plants in the north to the load center, which is Metro Manila.

“This relief operation is our way of giving back to the communities that take care of our substation and transmission assets,” NGCP added.

NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. The consortium, which holds the 25-year concession contract to operate the country’s power transmission network, is comprised of Monte Oro Grid Resources Corp. led by Henry Sy, Jr., Calaca High Power Corporation led by Robert Coyiuto, Jr., and the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) as technical partner.
