Woman Driver Goes Wild In Subic, Paulino Rescues LED Officer

A SIXTY-YEAR-OLD woman is in hot water over a series of traffic violations in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ), and for attempting to bribe no less than Olongapo City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino in an effort to wiggle out of her predicament.

Nancy Co Gonzalo of Baguio City, allegedly disregarded Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Law Enforcement Department (LED) officers last night and committed violations in at least three areas, at the stop light of the Argonaut and Rizal Highway junction, Burgos Road and Rizal Highway junction and finally, at Kalaklan Gate where LED officer Arnold P. Navarro was dragged by Gonzalo’s car for several meters, sustaining various physical injuries and shock.

It took the intervention of Mayor Paulino to stop the runaway Gray Honda Civic, with Plate no. PMI 908 and it’s seemingly crazed driver Gonzalo from further injuring Navarro and possibly other motorists and pedestrians.

“Nagulat na lang ako sa nakita ko na kinaladkad ng Honda Civic iyong LED officer,” Paulino told Subic Bay News.

Paulino happened to be driving a private vehicle behind Gonzalo, and, despite the initial surprise of the unexpected scene before him, he blocked the Honda Civic at the junction of the national highway immediately after the bridge from the Freeport’s Kalaklan Gate.

According to Mayor Paulino, the woman was at first adamant but later, offered to pay “any amount of money” if she is allowed to leave. Paulino said he refused the offer and called for police assistance. Responding policemen apprehended Gonzalo who, along with her 20-year-old companion Jackson Peter Wang Gamayao, were brought to Station 1 of the Olongapo City Police Office.

Navarro and two other SBMA LED officers, Arnold D. Diomino and Allan C. Cantor, also arrived at the Police Station to file complaints against Gonzalo, who police investigators say, have not been able to present the registration papers of the car she was driving.

Mayor Paulino said he is also filing charges against Gonzalo for her bribe offer which is an attempt to corrupt a government official.

Asked by Subic Bay News, Gonzalo denied having committed the traffic violations and the alleged bribe offer. However, his young companion, Gamayao, told investigators he tried to stop Gonzalo but she wouldn’t listen.

Police investigators said formal charges will be filed against Gonzalo and if any more violations are discovered in her vehicle which will be properly subjected to a search, more appropriate charges will be filed accordingly. (Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr./Iya G. Oliva)
