National Arts Month 2019
BAGAC, Bataan –Festive activities were held Monday in Bagac as the town hosted the Luzon opening of the 2019 National Arts Month celebration.
Spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in partnership with Bellas Artes Projects (BAP), the event dubbed as “Tao po/Tagpo” featured mural paintings, printmaking workshop, film showing and cultural performances from various arts groups.
“We operate on the principle that art is always present in each of us and it is very important in our daily lives. We aim to promote a creative spirit and we hope to support artists in all levels,” BAP Executive Director Fatima Manalili said.
NCCA Subcommission on the Arts Commissioner Teddy Co witnessed the event where outstanding local artists and performers in the province showcased their talents in singing, dancing, theater and visual arts.
Groups present include Las Casas Dancers, Tanghalang Tatsulok, BNHS Dance Troupe, Tunog Udyong Rondalla, PUP Banda Kawayan, Koro Bangkal Magbikin, Guhit Pinas, Pinoy Printmakers, and Cinema Rehiyon.
Sangguniang Bayan Tourism Committee Chairperson Ver Alonzo said Bagac is the perfect choice for the launching of the celebration since the town is a growing community of various historical and tourist destinations in the country.
“This event is important as arts and tourism are related and both are included in the process of building a progressive community,” he stressed.
NCCA is the lead agency for National Arts Month which carries the theme “Ani ng Sining.”
It seeks to celebrate a bountiful harvest of Philippine arts and to inspire the Filipino people to appreciate the beauty in diversity of cultural expressions.
Similar activities were held in Binondo, Manila for National Capital Region; Bago City for Visayas; and Koronadal City for Mindanao. (PIA 3)
