MARDI GRAS NETS CITY P200K FROM MOCCI

The Metro Olongapo Chamber of Commerce Inc., (MOCCI) turned over to the City Government of Olongapo its share from the proceeds of last year’s Mardi Gras amounting to P200, 000.00.

MOCCI incumbent president Mon Del Rosario, past president Aurelio “Bong” Pineda, treasurer Linda Lim and other MOCCI officials turned over the check to Olongapo Mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. during the weekly flag raising ceremonies at the Rizal Triangle Covered Court. The amount will be used to repair the Olongapo Police Office and the City Fire Department.

“Malaking tulong ang ibinigay ng MOCCI sa ating pamahalaang lungsod para mas mapaganda pa natin ang ating serbisyo sa mamamayan ng Olongapo,” said Mayor Gordon.

Last year’s MOCCI Mardi Gras committee was chaired by Dr. Ben Apostol, with Del Rosario as vice chair.  Pineda and Gordon served as honorary advisers. Pineda said the event re-affirmed Olongapo as the “Festival City” in this part of the country.

He assured Olongapeos that if MOCCI is tapped again as Mardi Gras organizer next year, “it will be more colorful and will showcase the distinct character of the peoples of Central Luzon.”

“We are thinking along the line of the Ati-Atihan Festival and we will invite the Aeta communities, the indigenous peoples in Olongapo, at San Marcelino in Zambales, Hermosa in Bataan, Floridablanca in Pampanga and those in Tarlac,” Pineda added.
