SM CITY OLONGAPO JOINS GLOBAL EARTH HOUR 2012

SM City Olongapo joined all SM Supermalls nationwide and the rest of the world in the observance of The Earth Hour on March 31, 2012 from 8:30 Pm to 9:30PM. SM City Olongapo including tenants and other establishments around the mall switched off their lights to make a statement on the fight against global warming and conservation of mother nature.

The theme of Earth Hour this year “I Will If You Will” centers around providing a social contract between two parties by connecting one person, business or organization to a “promise” and their friends, family, customers or members to a “challenge,” which unites them behind the common goal of creating a positive environmental outcome.

The “I Will If You Will” campaign is stating a personal dare to the world by asking everyone, “What are you willing to do to save the planet?”

Guests led by Mayor James Gordon, Jr. ,First Lady and SBMA Director Anne Gordon, Environmental Committee Chair Councilor Eduardo”Edic” Piano and SM City Olongapo Asst. Mall Manager Renalin Briones spearheaded the ceremonial lighting of luminaries and the countdown for the switching off of lights.

The program began with the Paseballo Dance Troupe’s  dance number and video presentations about SM Earth Hour and Global Earth Hour. In keeping with event’s theme, VIPS, guests and SM employees have their photos taken at the photo booth with their pledges written on placards.

Earth Hour began as a single-city initiative in 2007 and has since grown to be a 5,251-city strong global movement, reaching 1.8 billion people in 135 countries across all seven continents. A record-breaking 1,554 Philippine cities and municipalities switched off in 2011, and a large part of it was through the initiative of SM Supermalls, having the participation of all SM malls here in the Philippines plus the SM malls in China.  (PR-SMOL)
