Aboitiz, Subic Enerzone Grade School Science Scholars

OLONGAPO CITY – Thirty five incoming grade one students from this city became the first beneficiaries of a P900,000 worth of annual Special Science Elementary School scholarship sponsored by Aboitiz Foundation and Subic Enerzone.
The scholarship project is in cooperation with the city government and Ilalim Elementary School, which hosts the special science school here.
The turn over of donations, which included computer mobile teaching package, science reference kit, financial assistance, school uniforms, bags and school supplies took place at the school recently.
Subic Enerzone AVP and General Manager Warren Kern Sario, in his speech, said the scholarship is a joint project of both Aboitiz and Enerzone, an affiliate company of Aboitiz.
“We plan to sponsor these young scholars every year starting from Grade One until they reach Grade Six,” Sario said.
He added they are also going to build a special building for these scholars within the school as early as next year.
Also part of their commitment was to train the teachers handling these special science classes.
The 35 student scholars were selected through a city-wide qualifying examinations where the top 10 Kinder Two from all kinder schools in Olongapo participated.
Sario said a P5,000 annual financial assistance was also given to each students and their respective guardians or parents for their transportation allowance in going to school.
Olongapo City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino, who also graced the event, thanked Aboitiz and Subic Enerzone for their project, saying it is a big help in the government’s plan in pushing and promoting its education and health advocacies for the city residents.
The special science program initiated by Aboitiz and Enerzone is the first such program in the city.
