ALL SET FOR COMMODORE’S CUP REGATTA 2012

The Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012, presented by PLDT Alpha Enterprise now on its 5th year organized by the Subic Bay Yacht Club in conjunction with the Saturrday Afternoon Gentlemen Sailing (SAGS) Club, the Lighthouse, Marina Resort, Watercraft Ventures, Inc. and Subic Bay Metropolitan authority under the auspices of Philippine Sailing Association, is officially starting on April 10 and will last up to April 14 2012.
This comes right after the prestigious Rolex China Sea race 2012 is a 565-nautical mile Race from Hong Kong to Subic Bay, Philippines.
This event draws some 30 international boats from the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
The Commodore’s Cup Regatta was first convened in 2008 by then SBYC Commodore, Ricky Sandoval. As it grew following and prestige it has become part of the Asian Yachting Circuit last 2010.
This has been one of the most coveted regattas in the country and with each successive race the event has become better, Sandoval also said “ the event will also showcase Subic Bay and the Philippines as among the world’s top sailing destinations with its clear waters and fine sand beaches”.
In 2011, the commodore’s Cup, was presented by Ricky Sandoval to Jude Echauz of Subic Centennial at the awards night held at Subic Yacht Club. The Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012 event will start with its registration, skippers briefing followed by a Welcome Party hosted by the Lighthouse Marina Resort on April 10. The race proper starts on April 11.
There will be an evening socials to be held at the SBYC piazza boardwalk on the same night together with the PLDT Alpha Enterprise Guests. April 12 to 13, daily race awards and socials will be held at the Lighthouse Marina resort. While the Awards night on April 14 with at the poolside of Subic Bay Yacht Club.
The perpetual trophy will be awarded to the overall winners and of each class of IRC Racing Class, IRC Cruiser/racing Class, , IRC Premier Cruising Class and Cruising Class.
This year, the main event sponsors are PLDT Alpha Enterprise, with Mr. Jovy Hernandez, PLDT VP and Head for Corporate Business Group and Mr. Dennis Magbatos, President of Subictel and Clarktel, and organized by, Subic Bay Yacht Club Inc. headed by Mr Jose Maria I. Vargas, General Manager, Mr. Thomas Eirween Davis, Head Commodore’s Cup Regatta 2012 Organizing Committee in conjunction with Mr. Jesus Avecilla, President of Lighthouse Marina Resort and representative of Saturday Afternoon Gentlemen Sailing Club (SAGS), Mr. Federico Sandoval II, President of Watercraft Venture, Mr. Roberto V. Garcia, Chairman of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
