The Lighthouse Marina Resort in Subic Bay and the provincial administration of Zambales Gov. Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. jointly organized a Consultative Dialogue for Environment, Livelihood and Business Opportunities at the DepEd Training Center, Iba, Zambales.

Participants warmly welcomed the guest speaker Secretary Neric O. Acosta, Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection, who gave an inspiring and challenging talk entitled, “Climate Change – How to turn problems into opportunities”. He discussed the status of our environment and emphasized the importance of caring for the planet. “Ecology is the basis of economy, not the other way around.” explained Secretary Acosta.

The whole day meeting consisted of guest speakers that tackled topics that are in synergy with socio-economic best practices and livelihood opportunities. Attendees included Mayor Ronald Apostol of Cabangan, Mayor Carolyn Farinas of San Felipe and about 113 others from the local government units, the police, military and the private sectors within Zambales and Olongapo City.

At the end of the event, Vice Gov. Ramon Lacbain announced the launching of International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on September 20, 2014 for Zambales, to be spearheaded by ICC Zone Captain and the Sales & Marketing Manager of The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Zedrik Avecilla.

Last year’s ICC was attended by over 26,000 participants from Zambales, Olongapo and Subic Bay combined.

This year, more volunteers are expected to be mobilized from all towns to help clean the coastlines and waterways of Zambales.

During the activity, Lacbain together with Secretary Acosta and Avecilla decided to have a bigger and more meaningful dialogue that will involve the entire LGU of Zambales including Olongapo City and the Subic Bay Freeport Zone together with business owners to discuss the current problems of the environment and solutions on how to tackle them.

This will be a joint project of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the Provincial Government of Zambales and the Municipal Government of Olongapo before the ICC on September 20 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone..

The Lighthouse continuously serves the community by organizing relief donations, outreach programs, sponsoring rescue training and other community service activities across the province.

It will soon launch The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation, whose mission is to improve the lives of people in the community through integrated and sustainable programs to enhance tourism, livelihood and environment.
