As part of Olongapo Mayor Rolen C. Paulino’s effort to bring health service to isolated or far-flung areas in the city, a medical and dental mission for Aeta residents in the mountains of Sitio Tralala, Barangay Gordon Heights, was conducted ecently.

The medical mission, headed by Dr. Llyod Brian Tubban and Dr. Leslie Palma, of the City Health Department and joined by personnel from the Philippine Army Reserve Command, trekked 2 hours to reach the tribal community.

There, the team provided measles vaccine shots to children and distributed medicines, including amoxicillin, paracetamol, mefenamic acid and also multi-vitamins.

“It is difficult for our Aeta residents to come down from the mountains, imagine them bringing along their small kids and babies to the city proper to get medical attention,” Paulino said.

“That is why I have instructed our health workers to go to them instead of them (Aetas) going to us,” Paulino added.

Aside from distributing medicines, the military reserve personnel also conducted free hair cut and gave away flip-flop sandals.

Just recently, the same group trekked to Sitio Mampueng, also in Olongapo, and distributed medicines and mosquito nets, as well as conducted medical checkup on Aeta families. ###
