On Earth Day: SM Olongapo and Partners Convert Trash to Cash
Five years ago, SM Olongapo started a sustainability program called Trash to Cash Recycling Market. The activity invites and encourages local government and the community, haulers, recycling groups, social/environmental recycling project groups and private companies to bring their trash in the mall and exchange them for cash.
On Aprill 22, 2016 all SM malls nationwide will again take part in the annual, global celebration of Earth Day through a simultaneous and highlighted Trash to Cash activity in partnership with Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNP) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This activity aims to encourage people to protect and respect Mother Earth though recycling and proper waste disposal.
Customers can simply bring the following waste and exchange them for cash: plastic and PET bottles, tin and aluminum cans, books, newspapers, scratch papers, furniture made of wood, metal cookware and kitchen items. Batteries(penlight and double A), car batteries, ink cartridge, computer, television and other electronic waste are not accepted due to its hazardous content.
For years, SM Supermalls has been an advocate of environmental conservation, extremely active in comprehensive approach to promoting not only operational sustainability but also in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles of the general public. The event is open to public from 10AM to 4PM at the mall arcade, infront of National Bookstore. (PR-SMOL)
