PLDT backs telecommuting to ease traffic congestion
MANILA — As the government eyes telecommuting and other ICT-based solutions to ease traffic congestion, telecommunications provider PLDT has expressed support on this idea, saying this has been proven to be efficient, especially among enterprises.
At the ICT Summit organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in Makati City on Tuesday, the government has demonstrated how telecommuting can actually help ease traffic congestion in the country.
The DICT noted that with telecommuting, the need to commute to work will be lessened.
“Telecommuting has already been the practice of leading organizations in developed countries, and it’s been shown as a productive collaboration tool that helps enterprises plan meetings and conferences more efficiently,” remarked Eric Alberto, PLDT executive vice president.
The company said it will always be supportive of the government’s efforts in promoting digital solutions to help businesses, the economy, and the country.
The DICT’s resolution calls on both the public and the private sectors to consider telecommuting as an alternative work arrangement for the employees, without compromising their work productivity.
Of course, this couldn’t work without an effective network infrastructure.
PLDT cited that it has recently introduced an enterprise-grade virtual conferencing platform solution that further promotes telecommuting among enterprises.
Powered by Jamvee and in partnership with Tata Communications, PLDT’s Unified Collaboration cloud-based solution allows users to set up a secured collaboration experience on any or multiple devices using any operating system. It lets organizations host high-quality virtual conferences for several attendees, anytime, anywhere.
This Unified Collaboration solution has an HD content sharing feature, enabling attendees to share images, videos, audio, and presentations.
Instant messaging between individuals or groups is another feature. “Its highly-secure virtual meeting rooms can accommodate up to 100 participants simultaneously,” the company highlighted.
Alberto said that through this solution, enterprises can explore the flexibility of virtual conferencing.
Adopting ICT-based solution can also optimize personnel productivity, he added. (PNA)
