SM’s Green Retail Agenda Highlights Corporate Resiliency
“We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge; enough disaster preparedness could save many lives,” this was stressed by Irvin Paras, Research and Planning Division
Chief of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in his presentation on “Emergency Response in the Midst of Disaster” during the Green Retail Agenda, an environmental conference annually organized by SM Olongapo through the SM Cares program.
According to the Environment Committee of SM Supermalls , In the past years, the Green Retail Agenda
has focused more on climate change mitigation, and to a lesser degree on adaptation. This year with the increasing strength and frequency of natural disasters, it is important to build corporate resiliency.
Through the Green Retail Agenda, rosters of speakers shared their valued experiences, ideas, best
practices, tools and technology, to empower communities and individuals in improving their capacity in emergency response and disaster preparedness. The conference also helped in guiding each employees, tenants, and communities in creating their own risk reduction programs that address the risks they might face in the future.
List of speakers included City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Research and Planning Division Chief Irvin Paras, who tackled the “Emergency Response in the Midst of Disaster”. Likewise, City Planning and Development Office Head of Technical and Geographic Information System Section Engr. Frances Eduarte thoroughly discussed Philippine Disasters, and SM’s Customer Relations Service Representative Nelson Fallorin discussed about the Corporate Best Practices on Disaster Preparedness.
Because SM is a member of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction- Private Sector Partnerships, SM Supermalls seeks to educate, create awareness, and emphasize action points within the private sector and other key stakeholders to ensure disasters will be prepared for and recovered With the Green Retail Agenda, SM hopes to partner with host cities in disaster preparedness, risk reduction and humanitarian response while deepening the commitment and cooperation of each stakeholder in making the Philippines safe and resilient.
