Suspect in Jake Vargas Case Surrenders to Mayor Paulino

A policeman who is a suspect in the controversial kidnap for ransom case involving the relatives of young actor Jake Vargas has surrendered to Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino.

Paulino identified the suspect as PO3 Arnold Chantengco, who has been charged with three other policemen in the kidnapping, robbery and extortion cases filed by the family of the actor.

“He surrendered to me because he knows that he will not be harmed and that we will give him due process,” Paulino said.

Paulino explained that Chantengco was brought to him by retired Police Capt. Phillip Bolina at his residence at around 7am yesterday.

Chantengco is the third suspect involved in various crimes in the city who surrendered to Paulino.

Among those who surrendered to Paulino is a suspect involved in a stabbing incident in Barangay Pag-asa and a 12-old-boy who is suspected be a member of the notorious ‘akyat bahay gang.’

According to the actors siblings, Joseph and Odessa they were allegedly forced to go with the suspects and was taken to the intelligence office of the Olongapo PNP before the suspects asked for ransom which allegedly amounted to P200,000.00 in exchange for their freedom.
