778 get jobs on Independence Day

A total of 778 applicants were hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) during the 2014 Independence Day Job Fairs in Central Luzon.

“This represent a placement rate of 27.02 percent of the 2,879 qualified jobseekers or 12.02 percentage points above the 15 percent target,” Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Director Ana Dione disclosed.

Among the positions filled up include customer service representatives, sales clerks, waiters, production workers and factory workers.

Meanwhile, 88 applicants that lacked the required skills and training were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

“We are on a month-long monitoring of applicants for further interview from reports that will be submitted by the different participating employers in our job fairs, we are hopeful that these applicants will be hired in the days to come,” DOLE Technical Support and Service Division for Employment and Welfare head Nely Punzalan said.

Carrying the theme “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago,” 3,453 applicants trooped the employments fests held at the provincial capitol gym in Malolos City, Bulacan; Rizal Triangle Multipurpose Court in Olongapo City; and municipal covered court in Castillejos, Zambales.

A similar activity is likewise scheduled on June 13 at the municipal gym in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija; June 20 at Waltermart, City of San Fernando, Pampanga; and June 27 at municipal covered court in Paniqui, Tarlac. (PIA 3)
