DILG marks Local Government Code Anniversary
IBA, Zambales — Officials and staff from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently spearheaded a community service cum tree planting activity in Sitio Alao, Barangay San Juan in Botolan town, as a way of celebrating the 24th Local Government Code anniversary.
In her message, DILG Provincial Director Armi Bactad said they have chosen the area for their gift giving activity because they want to help a significant number of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) who reside there.
“This activity is a product of the initiative and concerted efforts of all DILG Zambales personnel as a way of giving back to the community for all the blessings that the agency have received,” Bactad explained.
During the gift giving activity, about 200 IPs households were each given a pack of assorted goods.
Day care students were likewise each given a separate bag of assorted biscuits and were also treated to different games.
Meanwhile, as a way also of giving back to nature and as part of their greening activities, the DILG personnel planted mahogany, narra and eucalyptus seedlings in a mountain near Sitio Alao.
In addition, 22 calamansi trees were planted in front of the DILG Zambales Office.
During the tree planting activity, each personnel planted a particular seedling and committed take care of them and monitor their growth. (PIA 3)
