CONG. KHONGHUN VOTES FOR BELMONTE AS HOUSE SPEAKER

Quezon City Representative Sonny Belmonte has been reelected house speaker with 1st-termer Jeffrey Khonghun of the 1st District of Zambales voting for him.

Khonghun defeated former Olongapo mayor and representative James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. in the last elections and expectations are high on his performance.

Anticipating the scheduled State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, residents of the 1st Dist. of Zambales follow the proceedings at the house of representatives and the senate via television such as the live coverage of ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel), which shows Rep. Jeffrey Khonghun (above) casting his vote for Quezon City Rep. Sonny Belmonte who was reelected to his post in the previous congress. In the senate, Sen. Franklin Drilon was elected as the new senate president. (SBN/VVV)

Aside Subic, where Rep. Khonghun was mayor for 9 years and his son Jay is now on his second term as mayor, the 1st district of Zambales comprises the city of Olongapo and the towns of Castillejos and San Marcelino.

Olongapo’s new mayor Rolen Paulino, an ally of Khonghun, also defeated a Gordon, the family which until the last elections, have dominated the local political scene for over three decades and left over P5B in debts in electric power consumption alone.
